The Illusion of Merit – John Rawls

Today it’s John Rawls’s 100th birthday! This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of his masterpiece A Theory of Justice. In January, Bruni and I published a paper also devoted to inquire how the young Rawls’s reading of the Pelagius-Augustine debate influenced his critique of merit and meritocracy and his notion of ‘legitimate expectations’.
